images.jpegWhile at CES, I saw the Vonage booth and quickly made my way over to ask some questions and found out some very good news.  Some background: I am a Vonage customer using the service both for my home and for my office line.  For the home, the service has been stellar and I will never go back to regular old phone service.  For my office line, I use the V-Phone since I am on the road a fair amount.  However, the V-Phone has some limitations that severely hampers its likability.  The biggest problem is that it only supports the Windows platform.  Being a Mac guy, I actually have to boot into Windows using Boot Camp as the V-Phone does not really work well in Parallels (all kinds of audio problems).  My second complaint is that the interface is horrible and looks like the application was built in 1992.  Now for the good news.

Speaking to a Vonage rep in the booth, he explained that Vonage will be coming out with an update to the V-Phone in Q2.  Not only will it support the Mac (Leopard), it will also have bluetooth on-board.  Both of these features are much needed and I will be a much happier V-Phone user.  It looks like a updated adapter/USB dongle will be required however.

On a separate note, it was nice to see Vonage have a decent size presence at CES.  They are looking forward to 2008 now with the lawsuits and settlements behind them and they continuing to spend money on R & D.  Also upcoming in 2008 will be a WiFi phone along with some updated adapters that have a screen on them telling you the status and giving you caller-ID information.
